St. Louis, Mo. – The Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team blanked Millikin, 4-0, on Tuesday evening on Francis Olympic Field. The Bears are now 6-2-5 overall.
The Bears came out firing on all cylinders, scoring just 2:36 in as
Anna Viscovich scored her first goal of the season on a
Maggie Brett cross.
Although there we no more first-half goals, WashU netted three more in the second half, starting with a Brett goal in the 53
rd minute. Brett intercepted a pass and dribbled it in, firing it past a diving Millikin goalkeeper to give the Bears a 2-0 advantage.
Brett wasn't done yet, as she scored her team-leading seventh goal of the year in the 67
th minute, taking a pass from
Tyler Wilson and scoring for a 3-0 Bears' lead.
Jessica Greven scored the final goal of the game – her first of the season – on a penalty kick following a foul in the box.
Statistically, the Bears' offense registered a total of 39 shots including 18 on goal. Brett had eight shots with four on frame and two goals. Wilson recorded three shots with two on goal. WashU also recorded 10 corner kicks to the Big Blue's zero.
The WashU defense did not allow Millikin a single shot, recording its ninth shutout of the season.
The Bears are back to UAA action this weekend with a Friday night game against Case Western Reserve University at 7:30 p.m. and a Sunday match against Carnegie Mellon at 1:30 p.m. The match against Carnegie will be senior day for WashU.
