Waltham, Mass. – The Washington University women's soccer team defeated Brandeis 3-2 on Friday evening on the road. The Bears are now 8-4-5 overall with a 2-3 mark in UAA play.
Brandeis got on the board first as Caroline Swan scored on a pass from Juliette Carreiro in the 14
th minute.
Just over four minutes later, the Bears pulled even when senior
Riley Alvarez scored on a pass from
Kaci Karl following a corner. It was Alvarez's second goal of the season.
The back-and-forth continued when Brandeis took a 2-1 lead in the 26
th minute when Makenna Hunt scored on a cross from Sydney Lenhart.
WashU came out to tie things up, 2-2, 10 minutes into the second half. First-year
Grace Ehlert scored her first-career goal with a chip from 25 yards out.
Ten minutes later, the Bears took the lead for good when senior
Maggie Brett scored her team-leading ninth goal of the year on a pass from
Ella Koleno.
Statistically, WashU outshot Brandeis 15-10 with nine shots on goal to the Judges' seven. The Bears notched three corner kicks while Brandeis had four.
In goal, junior keeper
Sidney Conner made five saves.
The Bears are back in action on Sunday with a 1:30 p.m. ET match at NYU. The game is NYU's Mitchell and Friends Foundation awareness game.
