Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Falls at Brandeis

Waltham, Mass. – The Washington University in St. Louis men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss on Friday evening at Brandeis University in UAA league play.

It was the first game back in action for the Bears since October 16, and with the loss, WashU drops to 6-4-2 on the year and falls to 2-1-2 in the conference standings.

Brandeis moves to 7-6-2 and 1-4 UAA with the victory as the Bears are now in a third-place tie in the standings with NYU.

WashU struggled in the opening half to get quality shots on-goal, as it was out-shot 11-3 in the first 45 minutes of action.

The Bears' best chance in the first half came early on in the contest in the seventh minute, as Carl Vestberg's shot attempt was saved by Brandeis' keeper.

WashU found itself defending its own goal for a majority of the half, fending off shot after shot from Brandeis.

However, the Judges would break through and struck first with under 15 minutes left in the half, scoring the only goal of the contest off a corner kick.

In the second half, the Bears won the shooting margin 8-4 and recorded six shots on-goal. The Bears continued to attack, trying to create space inside the box, posting two header shot attempts, but came up empty-handed.

With under 20 minutes left, the Bears fired off three consecutive shots with looks from Eugene Heger, Gavin Morse, and Joseph Hipskind, but both Heger and Morse's shots were saved, while Hipskind's shot was blocked.

Aiden Guthro, Brandeis' goalkeeper, notched six saves in the second half of action.

With time nearly expiring in the 89th minute, Owen Culver had the final shot attempt for the Bears, but the shot failed to land on-goal as it was blocked by a Brandeis defender.

Landon Green, Morse, Culver, and Heger each tallied two shots apiece in the loss.

Goalkeeper Matt Martin logged four saves, while facing 15 total shots on Friday.

The Bears will next travel to NYU for a Sunday contest beginning at 11 a.m. EST.
