Women's Soccer Falls to No. 6 CWRU in Tough Battle

St. Louis, Mo. – The Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team fell to No. 6 Case Western Reserve University, 2-1, on Friday evening in a UAA matchup on Francis Olympic Field.

The Bears are now 6-3-5 overall with a 1-2 mark in the UAA while Case improves to 11-0 overall and 3-0 in conference action.

WashU got on the board first in the 28th minute as senior Maggie Brett sent a cross to Anna Viscovich in the center of the box, who fired it into the back of the net. It was Viscovich's second goal of the season and Brett's team-leading fifth assist of the year.

Not long after, in the 34th minute, CWRU tied things up as Andrea Silva scored her first goal of the season on a pass from Anika Washburn to even the score.

The Spartans scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 68th minute when Camryn Hartmann fired in her team-leading eighth goal of the season on a pass from Maggie Farra.

The Bears had several other scoring opportunities against CWRU, including a Brett shot off a breakaway in the 18th minute, which sailed just right of the goal and out of play. In the 77th minute, Tyler Wilson fired a long shot from the 25 which looked like it would slip in over goalkeeper Maggie Storti's head, but Storti made a jumping save to punch the ball out.

Statistically, CWRU outshot the Bears 9-7 with five shots on goal to WashU's two. The Spartans had two corners kicks while WashU finished with one.

In goal, junior goalkeeper Sidney Conner made three saves on the day.

WashU returns to action on Sunday with another UAA match against Carnegie Mellon at 1:30 p.m. Prior to the game, the Bears will honor seniors Riley Alvarez, Ellie Brauner, Maggie Brett and Leandre Pestcoe.
