Women's Soccer Loses to No. 11 Carnegie Mellon on Senior Day

St. Louis, Mo. – The Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team fell to No. 11 Carnegie Mellon University, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at Francis Olympic Field.
 
The Bears are now 6-4-5 on the season with a 1-3 mark in the UAA.
 
Prior to the game, WashU honored its four seniors – Riley Alvarez, Ellie Brauner, Maggie Brett and Leandre Pestcoe.
 
After a scoreless first half, the Tartans broke through in the 56th minute. Alex Adams took a pass from Cecelia Dieterich and fired into the back of the net for her seventh goal of the season.
 
The Bears registered just one shot on goal, in the 89th minute, as Sarah Neltner drilled a ball from far out, which looked like it might slip in, but was saved by Carnegie Mellon goalkeeper Olivia Brand.
 
Statistically, the Tartans outshot WashU 16-4 with 10 shots on goal to the Bears' one.
 
Junior goalkeeper Sidney Conner was a machine in the net, making nine saves against the Tartans.
 
The Bears are now off of competition for over a week until returning to Francis Olympic Field on the 25th for a 7 p.m. match against Illinois Wesleyan before closing out UAA play with three road matches.
