Decatur, Ill., May 28, 2021 – The No. 1 Washington University in St. Louis baseball team defeated Denison 8-1 on Saturday in its third game of the NCAA Regional.
WashU moves to 31-3 as Denison dips to 25-12.
Senior Henry Singer singled and advanced to second with junior Caleb Durbin's groundout in the first inning. Junior Andrew Huang was the first to put a run on the board with his RBI single to push SInger across the board.
The Bears has a huge second inning, scoring five runs to run away with the lead.
Junior Tim Van Kirk reached first on an error and he and Kahal were able to take advantage of the opportunity to score the third and fourth runs of the game.
Singer hit his second single of the day and advanced home from Durbin's double. Huang hit an RBI double to make it a 6-0 game.
The Big Red scored its lone run of the game after hitting a triple and that runner advancing home from a teammate's groundout.
First-year Clayton Miller hit his second homerun of the season to tack on an extra run. Singer hit another single in the ninth and stole second to get himself in scoring position. Miller's single advanced him home to end the game with an 8-1 victory.
Senior Troy Bauer pitched seven innings to earn his sixth win of the season. Sophomore Kyle Coates finished out the final two innings, recording two strikeouts.
The Bears will play Denison on Sunday at 1 p.m. for the Championship. If the Bears win, they will move on to the World Series. If the Bears drop the game, another will be played to determine the advancing team.
