Decatur, Ill., May 28, 2021 - The No. 1 Washington University in St. Louis baseball team pulled off a game two win at Decatur's NCAA Regional on Friday, despite the delay.
WashU moves to 30-3 as Millikin's season ends at 30-16.
This 5-2 victory marks the first time in program history that the Bears have won its first two postseason games.
WashU started the first inning off with three singles in a row from junior Tim Van Kirk, senior Henry Singer and junior Caleb Durbin. Van Kirk reached third on Singer's hit and put the first run on the board from Durbin's single combined with a throwing error in the infield.
Junior Andrew Huang singled in the fifth and advanced to third on senior Johnny LaMantia's double to left center. Anderson was next up to bat, and an error resulted in Huang and LaMantia scoring two runs.
The Big Blue found a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to tighten up the score to 4-2.
The Bears' patience paid off in the seventh, with Durbin and Huang earning walks right away. Durbin stole second while Huang was at the plate, and then stole third with Huang right behind during first-year Clayton Miller's at-bat.
Despite the pitching change, Miller also earned a walk to load up the bases. Senior Collin Kahal stepped up to the plate, and got himself an RBI walk to push the fifth run across the board.
The game closed out with a final score of 5-2. Senior Ryan Loutos pitched the entire game to earn his 11th win of the season.
WashU plays Denison on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
