Women's Tennis falls to Emory 9-0

Murfreesboro, Tenn., May 2, 2021 — The Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team closed out the 2020-21 regular season with a 9-0 loss to Emory Sunday at the Adams Tennis Center.

The Bears finished the regular season at 8-3 while Emory improved to 5-3. 

WashU battled in some competitive matches, especially in singles play, but the Bears couldn't break through to pick up a point.

Senior Ally Persky and first year Karen Gao fell 8-3 at No. 1 doubles while senior Laurel Wanger and first year Katherine Johnston fell 8-3 at No. 2 and senior Emma Sass and junior Divya Sharma fell 8-4 at No. 3. 

Wanger and Gao both played their Emory opponents to three sets, but both came up short. Wanger fell 6-3, 6-7, 10-6 at No. 4 while Gao fell 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 at No. 2. Rounding out singles play, Persky fell 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1, Sharma fell 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3, sophomore Sophia Huynh fell 6-1, 7-6 at No. 5 and junior Hannah Johnston fell 7-6, 6-4 at No. 6. 

The NCAA Division III women's tennis tournament selection show is Monday, May 10.
