Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Waverly, Iowa, May 15, 2021 – The No. 1 Washington University in St. Louis baseball team won a pair of games against Wartburg on Saturday.

WashU moves to 28-3 on the season as the Knights dip to 14-26.

The doubleheader closes out the Bears' regular season. They look to be selected into post season play, with the NCAA Divison III selection scheduled for Sunday, May 23.

Game One: WashU 7, Wartburg 1

The first three innings were scoreless as senior pitcher Ryan Loutos recorded four strikeouts, including three with batters looking.

The Bears found its offensive rhythm in the fourth, tallying six runs, beginning with an RBI double from junior Bo Anderson. Senior Collin Kahal followed with an RBI triple, and advanced home off of a defensive error.

Junior Tim Van Kirk singled up the middle and senior Henry SInger laid down a perfect bunt to get on first. Both runners advanced to second and third on a wild pitch and scored off of junior Caleb Durbin's single up the middle.

Junior Andrew Huang doubled to left, allowing Durbin to cross home plate with a 6-0 lead.

Wartburg found its lone run of the game in the bottom of the seventh from two singles in the inning.

Anderson singled to left and advanced to second off of Kahal's groundout. Junior Hunter Goldberg singled through the left side for Anderson to score the seventh run.

A rain delay extended the game, with the ninth inning concluding with a 7-1 final score just over five hours after the first pitch.

Game Two: WashU 9, Wartburg 3

Van Kirk got on base off an error and advanced to second on a passed ball to get the game rolling. Singer's single put Van Kirk on third, and he was able to score off of Huang's hit turned fielder's choice.

The Knights countered in the bottom of the inning with three hits to take the lead at 2-1.

Anderson singled and advanced to second from first-year Clayton Miller's bunt. In an attempt to throw Miller out, they advanced to second and third off of a throwing error. Kahal hit a sacrifice fly to advance Anderson home to tie up the score with two runs apiece.

Huang hit his third homerun of the season in the third for two runs. Van Kirk singled in the fourth inning and flexed his speed by advancing to second from an error and making it to third, despite a pickoff attempt. Singer hit a single to push Van Kirk's run across to make it a 5-2 game.

Wartburg added a third run in the fifth after two singles and one out. The Bears continued scoring nearly every inning, with Van Kirk and Singer's RBI singles in the sixth and Kahal's RBI double in the seventh inning to extend the lead to 8-3.

First-year Kaden Bernhard scored the final run with an RBI single in the ninth to close out the night with a 9-3 score.
