Box Score Sewanee, Tenn., May 1, 2021 — The Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team saw its win streak end at eight matches with a 7-2 road loss to Sewanee Saturday.
The Bears dipped to 8-2 with the loss while Sewanee improved to 8-2.
Senior Laurel Wanger picked up a 7-6, 7-6 win in No. 4 singles while junior Hannah Johnston won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6 singles to account for WashU's only wins on the day.
Senior Ally Persky and first year Karen Gao had their seven-match doubles streak halted with an 8-2 loss at the No. 1 spot. Wanger and first year Katherine Johnston dropped a hard-fought match 8-7 at No. 2 doubles while senior Emma Sass and junior Divya Sharma fell 8-4 at No. 3.
Persky fell 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles while Gao fell 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot. Sharma won her first set 6-4 at the No. 3 spot before falling in subsequent sets 6-1 and 10-1. Rounding out singles play, sophomore Sophia Huynh fell 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5.
The Bears close the season with a 1 p.m. neutral site match against Emory on Sunday, May 2.
