No. 2 Baseball Defeats Westminster

St. Louis, Mo., April 9, 2021 – The Washington University in St. Louis baseball team defeated Westminster (Mo.) in a pair of doubleheaders on Friday. 

The Bears are one of 16 undefeated teams left in all divisions as they improve to 16-0. 

Senior Collin Kahal recorded three runs and one RBI on the day with senior Henry Singer tallying a team-high four runs. 

Game 1: No. 2 WashU 11, Westminster 3

The Bears flaunted its strong offense from the start, pushing two runs across in the first. Durbin's triple advanced Miller home, with Durbin scoring off of LaMantia's hit. Miller hit an RBI single in the bottom of the second for the lone run of the inning. 

Styka's patience paid off in the third by earning an RBI with his walk, followed by RBI singles from Singer and Van Kirk to push the Bears' lead to 6-0. 

The Bluejays hit a two-run RBI to put two runs on the board in the fourth. In the bottom of the inning, Kahal made his way around the bases with a sacrifice fly from T. Bauer. 

Miller recorded his second RBI single of the game in the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly from LaMantia to push Van Kirk across home plate. 

Styka's hit an RBI single in the eighth, advancing Dalinghaus to third. But a defensive error allowed Dalinghaus to cross the plate for WashU's eleventh run of the game. Westminster scored a final run of the game in the top of the ninth, with WashU pulling off the 11-3 win. 

Game 2: No. 2 WashU 10, Westminster 4

The second game proved to be tougher to get rolling for the WashU offense with the first run coming in the third. LaMantia hit an RBI single in the fifth to take the lead, followed by an RBI single from Andrew Huang to make it a 3-1 game. 

In the seventh inning, WashU put four runs across starting with an RBI double from Durbin and Huang's hit advancing Miller home. Junior Bo Anderson hit an RBI single followed by a deep double into right field from senior Rees Viersen to increase the lead to 7-1. 

Westminster had a big top of the eighth inning, scoring three runs to tighten up the score 7-4. But the Bears were able to get an additional three runs across home plate in the eighth to end the game at with a 10-4 victory.
