St. Louis, Mo., April 6, 2021 – The Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team extended its winning streak to five-straight with a 9-0 defeat of Lindenwood Tuesday afternoon at the Tao Tennis Center.
Lindenwood (4-3) put up a solid fight across several flights in both singles and doubles, but the Bears (5-1) managed to come out on top without dropping a set.
Graduate student Scott Altmeyer and first year Jeremy Ouyang won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles while seniors Daniel Li and Benjamin van der Sman won 8-4 at No. 2 and senior Ethan Hillis and first year Gaurav Singh won 8-1 at No. 3.
WashU's top two singles players remain undefeated on the season with 6-0 records as Hillis picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles and Altmeyer won 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2. Van der Sman won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 while Li won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4, and Singh won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5. First year Jared Phillips picked up his first career singles win with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 6 to round out the day for the Bears.
WashU is back in action Thursday with a 4 p.m. matchup against Missouri-St. Louis at the Tao Tennis Center followed by a 4 p.m. match against Principia on Friday.
