Box Score St. Louis, Mo., April, 26, 2021 — The Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team picked up its eighth-straight win and remained undefeated in Division III competition with a 9-0 win over Webster Monday afternoon at the Tao Tennis Center.
The match saw senior Ally Persky pick up career wins No. 70 and 71 as the Bears improved to 8-1 on the season. Persky teamed up with first year Karen Gao for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles spot and picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles.
Senior Laurel Wanger teamed up with junior Divya Sharma for an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles while junior Emma Verpoucke and first year Maggie Yang won 8-1 in the third flight.
Wanger won 6-0, 6-0 in her first action of the season at No. 2 singles while senior Emma Sass picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3, first year Natalie Muldowney won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4, sophomore Leslie Ligier won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 and Verpoucke won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
The Bears travel to Sewanee, Tenn. for a 10 a.m. match with Sewanee on Saturday, May 1.
Team Notes: Monday's match marked the first action of the season for Verpoucke, Yang and Muldowney...the doubles pairing of Persky and Gao have won seven consecutive matches at No. 1...Wanger has been a part of six-consecutive No. 2 doubles wins pairing with Sharma and Katherine Johnston...Sharma takes a seven-match singles win streak into Saturday's match against Sewanee...Persky and Wanger have won four consecutive singles matches...Sass remains undefeated at 3-0 in singles play.
