Storm Lake, Iowa, April 24, 2021 – The No. 1 Washington University in St. Louis baseball team dropped a pair of games to Buena Vista on Saturday.
The Bears move to 21-3 while the Beavers improve to 11-16.
Game 1: WashU 2, Buena Vista 8
The Beavers scored two runs in the first to get the game rolling in the first. The Bears countered with a hit from junior Bo Anderson followed by first-year Clayton Miller's first homerun of the season to tie the game up at two runs apiece.
Buena Vista posted runs in the fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth innings to run away with the game, serving WashU the second loss of the season at 2-8. Junior Matt Bauer closed out the eighth inning with two strikeouts.
Game 2: WashU 1, Buena Vista 3
The second game proved to be a pitchers' duel through five innings, with the teams locked at 0-0. Senior Troy Bauer made the start and recorded two strikeouts.
Junior Tim Van Kirk's RBI single in the top of the sixth put the first run on the board, advancing senior Collin Kahal home.
Buena Vista scored two runs in the bottom of the inning with a homerun and RBI double to take the lead. The Beavers scored an additional run in the seventh with an RBI double to solidify the Bears' 1-3 loss.
