Bettendorf, Iowa, April 24, 2021 – The Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team picked up a 9-0 neutral site win over Wisconsin-Whitewater Saturday afternoon.
The win marked WashU's ninth in-a-row as the Bears improved to 9-1 while the Warhawks snapped a nine-match win streak and fell to 10-2.
WashU picked up an 8-6 doubles wins from graduate student Scott Altmeyer and sophomore Abhi Ramireddy at No. 1 while seniors Daniel Li and Benjamin van der Sman won 8-1 at No. 2 and senior Ethan Hillis and first year Jeremy Ouyang won 8-3 at No. 3.
In singles play, Hillis won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1, Altmeyer won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2, van der Sman won 7-5, 6-4 at No. 3, Li won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4, first year Jared Phillips won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 and junior Luke Smith won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6.
Hillis remains undefeated overall on the season with a 10-0 mark at No. 1 singles and a 9-0 mark in doubles play. Altmeyer is perfect at 10-0 at No. 2 singles with a 9-1 mark at No. 1 doubles. Since losing their first matches of the season against players from Division 1 Memphis, Li and van der Sman have both gone undefeated with eight consecutive wins in both singles and doubles. Ramireddy maintains an undefeated 7-0 record at No. 1 doubles, all pairing with Altemeyer.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday, May 1, with a 10 a.m. match at Sewanee.
