Box Score 2 Crawfordsville, Ind., March 27, 2021 – The No. 2 Washington University in St. Louis baseball team extended its winning streak to eleven games, with 7-1 and 7-6 wins over Wabash on Saturday.
WashU moves to 11-0 while Wabash drops to 7-7.
Senior pitcher Ryan Loutos earned his fourth win of the season with freshman Clayton Miller earning his second and senior Jared Fong adding a second save.
Junior Caleb Durbin tallied a stolen base, two runs on three hits, including a double with fellow junior Tim Van Kirk recorded one run on three hits and three RBI.
Game 1 – WashU 7, Wabash 1
Van Kirk and Durbin put two runs on the board in the third inning to give the Bears an early lead. Durbin stole third in the sixth inning and scored a run of his own after a throwing error by the catcher.
Wabash scored its lone run of the game in the eighth with a double to right center.
WashU had a dominant ninth inning with RBIs from seniors Johnny LaMantia and Henry Singer and junior Zac Styka. Miller scored after an error and failed pickoff attempt to seal the 7-1 victory.
Game 2 – WashU 7, Wabash 6
Senior Troy Bauer put the first two runs on the board in the first inning with the bases loaded. Senior Collin Kahal hit an RBI single, with Van Kirk following with a single through the left side to make the score 4-0 in the top of the second inning.
Wabash scored two runs in the second and third to tighten up the score to 4-2.
Singer and Van Kirk increased the back to four runs with RBI singles in the top of the fourth. Wabash had a strong offensive inning in the fifth, tightening the Bears' lead to just one run at 6-5.
Singer scored on a wild pitch in the sixth to secure the WashU win with Fong managing from the mound for the final three innings to keep the winning streak alive.
