Box Score St. Louis, Mo., March 24, 2021 – The Washington University in Softball team couldn't get its offense rolling in a 4-1 loss to Webster Wednesday afternoon at the WU Softball Field.
Junior Nicole Hay's second-inning solo home run turned out to be the only run the Bears (4-6) could manage against the Gorloks (5-3) and starter Morgan Parrish.
Hay's homer, her second of the season, put WashU up 1-0 after two innings. The two teams battled through two scoreless innings before Webster took advantage of some WashU miscues to even the score at 1-1 heading into the sixth inning. The Gorloks broke through with three runs on four hits in the sixth and the Bears couldn't find any answers in the final frames.
Junior Madison Denton (2-3) suffered the loss after coming in relief of starter Holly Stoner in the fourth inning. Hay went 2-for-3 from the plate to lead the WashU offense.
The Bears look to rebound with a doubleheader against Greenville starting at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30 at the WU Softball Field.
