St. Louis, Mo., March 21, 2021 – The No. 3 Washington University in St. Louis baseball team concluded its three-game sweep of DePauw University with a 9-4 win on Sunday.
WashU moves to 8-0 while the Tigers drop to 7-6.
This is the first 8-0 start in program history since 2006.
Senior Jared Fong pulled off the win after pitching five innings, striking out six of the 18 batters that he faced from the mound.
The Tigers found two runs in the top of the fourth to tie up the score. The Bears countered in the bottom of the inning with a two-run double from Van Kirk to put the team back up 4-2.
Anderson hit his first homer of the season in the bottom of the fifth. In the seventh inning, freshman Clayton Miller recorded his second RBI-double of the weekend and scored off of fellow freshman Jack Miller's single through the left side.
Styka scored for the second time of the day from a single from senior Johnny LaMantia. C. Miller hit a sacrifice fly to left field to advance freshman Harry Mauterer home for the final run of the game. The Bears secured the 9-4 win with sophomore Kyle Coates striking out the final batter.
The Bears host No. 8 Webster on Wednesday beginning at 2 p.m.
