No. 3 Baseball's Offense Dominates DePauw in Doubleheader

St. Louis, Mo., March 20, 2021 – The No. 3 Washington University in St. Louis baseball team extended its winning streak to seven games with 12-1 and 10-0 wins over DePauw University. 

The Bears improve to 7-0 while the Tigers dip to 7-5. 

No. 3 WashU 12, DePauw 1 – Game One, Seven Innings 

Senior Ryan Loutos earned his third win of the season by striking out 12 of the 26 (.462) batters he faced from the mound. 

Senior Henry Singer scored the first run of the game after singling up the middle, stealing second, advancing to third on junior Tim Van Kirk's single and finding a gap to score off of a defensive error. 

The Bears' offense was hot in the fourth, getting started by junior Zac Styka's first homerun of the season. Senior Johnny LaMantia hit an RBI single up the middle before he and senior Collin Kahal scored after a pair of errors. Junior Caleb Durbin's two-run double completed the inning, putting the team up 7-0. 

The Tigers found their lone run of the game in the sixth followed by another dominant inning from WashU. Singer's single gave him an extra two RBI for his day. Durbin was hit by a pitch, loading the bases, followed by Styka also getting hit while earning an RBI. 

LaMantia wrapped up the sixth with a two-run single, solidifying the final score 12-1 in favor of WashU. 

No. 3 WashU 10, DePauw 0 – Game Two, Seven Innings 

Senior Troy Bauer claimed his second win of the season by allowing two hits and striking out six batters. 

Styka got things rolling in game two, hitting an RBI single to right field. WashU scored single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings. Durbin earned an RBI single in the third, followed by freshman Clayton Miller's RBI-double and junior Bo Anderson's RBI single in the fifth to lead 4-0. 

In the sixth inning, Singer hit his first homerun of the season, recording two RBI, with Durbin earning an additional RBI with a single to center field. 

Singer's big day concluded with a two-run single to center to end the game in the seventh with a 10-0 victory.
