Box Score 2 Dubuque, Iowa, March 13, 2021 – The No. 7-ranked Washington University in St. Louis baseball team earned its first road wins of the season with 7-0 and 10-2 victories over the University of Dubuque.
WashU improved to 5-0 while Dubuque fell to 0-5.
No. 7 WashU 7, Dubuque 0 – Game One
Senior pitcher Ryan Loutos only allowed two hits in his seven innings from the mound. He struck out 12 batters and earned his second win of the season. Fellow senior Jared Fong closed out the final two innings.
Senior Troy Bauer brought in two runs off of his two hits in the second and fourth innings. Also in the fourth, senior Johnny LaMantia's sac fly to center gave junior Zac Styka the opportunity to score to put the Bears up 3-0.
Junior Bo Anderson hit a two-RBI double in the fifth inning. He advanced to third off LaMantia's single and scored off of a defensive error by the Spartans.
LaMantia scored the last run of the game in the eighth to wrap up the game with a 7-0 win.
No. 7 WashU 10, Dubuque 2 – Game Two
Junior Tim Van Kirk recorded a team-high four RBIs off of three hits. Bauer earned his first win of the season with seniors Mitchell Black and Tim Tague taking the last four innings and not allowing a single hit.
The Spartans scored their only runs of the game in the fourth off of a two-RBI homerun to tie up the game 2-2.
The Bears had a four-run sixth inning, with Anderson, LaMantia, Singer and Van Kirk recording RBIs.
Anderson and senior Collin Kahal scored on a pair of errors in the seventh and eighth innings. Freshman Kaden Bernhard's sacrifice fly drove in senior Rees Viersen in the ninth to finish with a 10-2 victory.
WashU batters recorded a total of 17 runs on 26 hits with the pitchers tallying 24 strikeouts during Saturday games.
