St. Peter, Minn., Feb. 21, 2020 – The No.9-ranked Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team could not rebound from a doubles sweep in a 7-2 loss to No. 8 Brandeis University Friday in the opening round of the 2020 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Indoor Championship in St. Peter, Minn.
Brandeis cruised to a pair of wins at No. 2 (8-0) and No. 3 (8-5), but WashU was destined to trim the lead in half with a victory at No. 1 doubles before an injury by junior Benjamin van der Sman. Brandeis won the match at No. 1 in a tiebreaker to jump out in front 3-0.
Brandeis improved to 2-0 with the win, while WashU dropped to 2-2.
