WashU Finishes Strong at Gregory Final Qualifier

Naperville, Ill., May 17, 2018 – The Washington University in St. Louis track & field program made one final push towards the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships during the conclusion of the Gregory Final Qualifier at North Central College on Thursday evening.

The men's 4x400m relay team posted an impressive 3:13.50 time as junior Jason Singer, classmate Eddie Wintergalen, freshman Andrew Whitaker and classmate John Harry Wagner took second place. The time is a season-best for the Bears and ranks third all-time in program history. It also is the seventh fastest time in DIII this season.

Likewise, the men's 4x100m relay team posted a time that ranks among all-time WashU greats. Juniors Zae Alcedo, CJ Chin, Wintergalen and senior Roderick Smith finished the 400m relay in 41.86. The Bears placed fifth in the event with the second fastest time in school history.

Graduate student Ethan Brodeur made a strong case for nationals with the nation's 17^th fastest time this year in the 1,500m run. He posted a career-best time of 3:51.43.

Sophomore Marco Quaroni placed fourth overall with DIII's 26^th best steeplechase time of the year, 9:14.11. Similarly, Whitaker placed second with the 28^th fastest 400m hurdle time of the year, 53.52.

Junior Heidi Nassos likely solidified a chance to compete in multiple events at nationals on Thursday. She leapt a career-best 11.78m in the triple jump to place second at the meet and 13^th in DIII.

Also posting career-bests with top 50 times in DIII were Jay Pittman in the 100m hurdles (14.72), junior Molly Shepherd in the steeplechase (11:00.64) and freshman Josephine Simon in the 400m hurdles (1:03.49).

The women's 4x400m relay fared well with a second place time of 3:52.05. The group of sophomore Nicky Althoff, freshman Sophie Grigaux, sophomore Sara Mesiano and senior Annalise Wagner previously recorded DIII's 10^th fastest time this year (3:50.75)
