St. Louis, Mo., April 6, 2018 – Freshman Julia Dannenbaum's first place finish in the women's pole vault highlighted day one of the Billiken Invitational for the Washington University in St. Louis track & field program Friday evening.
The No. 4-ranked WashU women have 34 points and trail Division I host Saint Lous University by eight points. The Bears men have six points and head into Saturday's events in seventh place out of nine teams competing.
Dannenbaum and junior Heidi Nassos posted the same heights on their pole vaults, clearing 3.49m but Dannenbaum took first on misses.
The Bears pole vaulters took five of the six placements as junior Dominique Meyer (3.34m), freshman Karina Marin (2.74m) and sophomore Anika Boyd (2.74m) placed three through five.
Freshman Eka Jose also earned a point for the WashU women as she placed eighth overall in the long jump with a mark of 4.79m. Freshman Randal Walker was 14th in the hammer throw with a distance of 36.81m. Sophomore Rachel Kershner placed fourth in javelin with a throw of 32.12m.
Senior Ezugo Onejeme earned five points for the WashU men by placing fifth with a jump of 6.32m. Sophomore Brandon Hutchison placed ninth overall to earn a point for the Bears in the long jump as well, 5.86m. Meanwhile, Quin Preston launched the hammer a season-best 44.00m to place ninth overall.
