Atlanta, Ga., April 6, 2018 – The Washington University in St. Louis baseball team dropped its second straight road game of the week, falling 6-3 to University Athletic Association (UAA) foe Emory Friday evening in Atlanta at Chappell Park.

The Bears' loss drops their overall record to 14-10, including 3-2 in UAA play as Emory improved to 11-13 and 2-3 in the UAA. WashU totaled six errors which resulted in four unearned runs for the Eagles.

Senior Auggie Mense and sophomore Thomas Gardner led the Bears with 2-for-4 performances at the plate while junior Evan Nagel went 1-for-4 with a run scored, a run knocked in and stole two bases. Junior John Howard (4-3) received the loss after allowing five runs but only one earned on eight hits over five innings pitched.

Freshman Troy Bauer combined efforts with sophomores Daniel Broadie and Jack Besser to throw two innings of scoreless baseball in relief.

WashU scored in the first inning as Nagel singled through the right side of the infield before swiping second and third base. He scored on a wild pitch to give the Bears a 1-0 lead. However, the lead was short lived as the Eagles turned a one-out error into the game-tying run.

Emory once again took advantage of some throwing miscues when it scored three runs in the fourth. The Eagles added a run in both the fifth and sixth innings, stretching their lead to 6-1.

The Bears sent three freshmen up to the plate in back-to-back-to-back situations in the eighth. All three recorded hits in their plate appearances. Mitchell Black, Johnny LaMantia and Collin Kahal's hits helped cut Emory's advantage to three runs, but the Bears were unable to even the game up in the ninth inning.

Emory's Richard Brereton (3-3) received the win while holding the Bears to one run over seven innings on five hits and striking out nine batters.

The Bears and Eagles game time has yet to be determined for Saturday due to inclement weather forecasts as the doubleheader has been shifted to Sunday and will begin at 10:30 a.m. (ET).
