Greenville, Ill., April 12, 2018 – The Washington University in St. Louis softball team stepped out of non-conference play and posted a doubleheader sweep at Greenville University on Thursday afternoon in Greenville, Ill.

WashU posted an 11-4 victory in game one, and then had a season-high 15 hits in an 11-3 win in game two. Sophomore Amy Walsh was 7-for-10 with two runs scored and three RBIs in the doubleheader sweep, and is now hitting .365.

WashU snapped a four-game losing streak and improved to 8-10 with the two victories, while Greenville fell to 8-15.

WashU 11, Greenville 4 – Game One
Senior Maggie Clapp (3-for-5, run scored, three RBI) and Walsh (3-for-5, run scored, RBI) each had three hits in the game one victory. 

The Bears built a commanding 7-0 lead after three innings of play. Sophomore Mikaela Arredondo and freshman Natasha Ramakrishnan each had RBIs in the first, and then Clapp drove in a pair of runs and senior Hera Tang added an RBI groundout in the second.

Sophomore pinch-hitter Michaela Morhaus drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth to push the advantage to 8-0. Greenville scored three runs of senior Anna McKee in the third to trim the lead to 8-3.

Arredondo pushed across another run with a single to center in the sixth, and then Walsh and Clapp added RBIs in the seventh.

Ramakrishnan added her second-career multi-hit game going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. The Bears recorded 12 hits in the win, and took advantage of four errors.

McKee (5-4) picked up the complete-game victory allowing five hits and four runs (three earned). She struck out nine and threw 129 pitches. 

WashU 11, Greenville 3 – Game Two
Clapp (3-4) picked up the victory in game two allowing five hits and three runs (two earned) in six innings. Freshman Abby Graegin pitched a perfect seventh.

Walsh was 4-for-5 with a run scored and two RBIs, while junior Josi Elder was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a pair of RBIs. Morhaus was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs in her first start of the season.

Tied 1-1 in the second, Morhaus doubled to left to drive in a run and then Walsh tripled to left to push across another run to make it 3-1. 

The Bears put the game out of reach with five runs on five hits in the fifth. Senior Mackenzie Gauden and Ramakrishnan drove in runs with a single, and then Elder double to right center to push across two. 

Morhaus added a two-RBI double and Walsh had an RBI double in the seventh to round out the scoring.

WashU travels to Case Western Reserve for a four-game series on Friday-Saturday, April 20-21, in Cleveland. Game one is set for 2 p.m. (ET) on Friday.
