Wagner's All-American Honor Helps WashU Place Fourth

Birmingham, Ala., March 10, 2018 – The Washington University in St. Louis women's track & field team concluded the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field National Championships in a three-way tie for fourth place, totaling 27 points in the two-day event at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

Senior Annalise Wagner had an All-American finish in the 800m, scoring eight points to help the Bears finish with 27 points. Nebraska Wesleyan and University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire tied WashU for fourth place. University of Massachusetts Boston won the women's title with 46 points, while Mount Union (41) edged North Central (40) by a single point on the men's side for the national title. The WashU men tied for 30th with eight points.

Wagner set the school record in the 800m, and now ranks as the fifth fastest performer in Division III history with a time of 2:08.78. She maintained stride with the two-time National Champion Emily Richards of Ohio Northern for the opening 700m. Wagner held off a hard charging attempt by WPI's Sydney Packard with a final kick to earn second place by one-third of a second. Wagner supplanted Erica Jackey's record, previously set in 2012 (2:10.69).

Freshman Eka Jose narrowly missed the triple jump finals cut after posting a mark of 11.63m on her third and final attempt in the prelims.

The WashU women earned a top-four finish for the third consecutive indoor season after winning the 2017 title and placing third in 2016.

The Bears will open their outdoor track & field season on Saturday, March 24 at home during the WashU Mini Meet. Be sure to stay up to date on all your Bears scores and awards by following @WashUBears on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
