Jacksonville, Ill., Feb. 16, 2018 – The Washington University in St. Louis track & field program totaled 11 first place finishes during Illinois College's Hilltop Invitational Friday evening at the King Field House.
Highlighting the Bears night in which no team scores were kept was freshman Sophie Grigaux with a first place finish in the 800m (2:16.99) and also a first place finish as a member of the 4x400m relay (3:59.28) with sophomore Nicky Althoff, sophomore Sara Mesiano and senior Annalise Wagner. Both times converted into top-15 marks within Division III as the relay time ranks seventh (3:56.15) and the 800m (2:15.43) ranks 15th.
Also seizing first place finishes for the women were Wagner in the 400m (59.59), junior Heidi Nassos in the pole vault (3.79m), freshman Rachel Novick in the long jump (4.91m) and junior Jay Pittman in the 60m hurdles (9.27).
The WashU men totaled five event titles including the 4x400m relay by junior Jason Singer, sophomore Eddie Wintergalen, freshman John Harry Wagner and sophomore Jon Fleming who posted a winning time of 3:24.00. Fleming also won the 800m in 1:57.45 while Wagner captured the 400m (50.80) title like his sister.
Sophomore Collis McKenzie took first in the high jump (1.93m) while sophomore Jacob Gray seized the 60m hurdles title in 8.70.
WashU will travel to Cleveland, Ohio next weekend to compete at Case Western Reserve University in the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships.
