Naperville, Ill., May 17, 2017 – Senior Everett Kleven set a new pole vault record while placing second at the Gregory Invitational hosted by North Central College on Wednesday evening as senior Annie Marggraff posted a winning time in the 10,000m run.
Kleven reached a height of 5.18m (17 feet) to place second with the nation's third best height. He previously set the standard at WashU by becoming the first Bear to exceed five meters in height with a mark of 5.12m at the UAA Championships.
Marggraff placed first in the 10,000m run with a time of 37:46.31. Her time of 36:17.20 during the WashU Invitational on March 31 ranks 25th in Division III this season.
Also placing second in pole vault was sophomore Heidi Nassos on the women's side. She tied her personal-best height of 3.77m, which is tied for the 15th best mark in Division III this year. Sophomore Dominique Meyer placed ninth with a height 3.17m.
Junior Kirby Simon placed third in the 5,000m run with a time of 15:09.40, a season-best time for the Grapevine, Texas-native. Also tying a season-best mark was freshman Collis McKenzie in the high jump as he cleared the bar at 1.97m.
Also placing for the men in pole vault were freshman Brandon Hutchison and junior Jacob Rother. Hutchison nearly matched his season-best height when he reached 4.64m on his first try to place fifth, while Rother placed ninth with a height of 4.34m.
The Gregory Invitational will conclude Thursday evening as the Bears take one last attempt to solidify their marks before NCAA qualifiers are announced for the Division III National Championships next week in Geneva, Ohio.
