WashU Baseball Rallies for 4-3 Victory at Chicago

Chicago, Ill., May 13, 2016 — Junior Austin Darmawan drove in the go-ahead run with a two-out RBI single in the ninth as the Washington University in St. Louis baseball team rallied for a 4-3 victory over the University of Chicago Friday in Chicago.

With the win, the Bears snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 29-16 on the season.

WashU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the second after junior Ted Daley belted an RBI single into centerfield. Junior starting pitcher Brad Margolin tossed a shutout into the fifth until Chicago took the lead with two runs on three hits.  

Sophomore Conor O'Hara tied the game in the sixth with an RBI groundout scoring junior Christian Santos, who led off the inning with a double. The score remained deadlocked at 2-2 until Chicago regained the lead in the eighth with a run to make it 3-2.

However, the Bears clawed their way back into it in the ninth. After the Bears drew two walks and a hit by pitch to load the bases with one out, junior Spencer Egly hit a sacrifice fly to make it 3-3 before Darmawan hit the go-ahead single to give WashU a 4-3 lead.

Margolin (7-1) tossed a scoreless ninth to secure the complete-game victory. Margolin lowered his ERA to 3.24 after allowing three runs on eight hits while recording four strikeouts in nine innings of work.

WashU wraps up the regular season with a doubleheader at Chicago on Saturday. Game one is set to begin at Noon.
