Big Fourth Inning Powers Bears to 21-2 Win at Greenville

Greenville, Ill., April 8, 2016 – The Washington University in St. Louis baseball team scored 15 runs in the top of the fourth inning en route to a 21-2 win in seven innings at Greenville College Friday night.

WashU improved to 17-11 with the win, while Greenville dropped to 8-17. The Bears are scheduled to play three home games Saturday and Sunday, beginning with a doubleheader at Noon Saturday against Fontbonne University.

WashU scored one run each in the first and second innings, only to have Greenville hit a two-run homerun to tie the game in the bottom of the third. The Bears busted the game open in the top of the fourth by sending 20 batters to the plate and scoring 15 runs on 11 hits in the inning. Junior Ben Browdy had an RBI triple and a three-run double, while freshman Ethan Kuehl, sophomore Conor O'Hara and junior Spencer Egly also had two hits each in the inning. WashU added three runs in the fifth and one more in the seventh to finish with the 21-2 win.

Senior Julian Clarke (3-3) earned the win after allowing two runs on four hits in four innings of work. Junior Max Cormier (two innings) and junior Chris McKee (one inning) combined for three shutout innings in relief.

Browdy finished 4-for-4 at the plate with a double, triple, a run scored and a career-high four RBIs. Junior Christian Santos also had a career-high four RBIs, while junior Austin Darmawan drove in three runs and senior Max Golembo added two RBIs.

Bear Notebook: It was the 10th time this season WashU has scored double-digit runs … The Bears improved to 46-22 against Greenville since the 1985 season, and have won 15 of the last 16 games between the two teams … It was the 410th career win for WashU head coach Pat Bloom (410-186).
