Auburndale, Fla., March 18, 2016 – Playing its 13th game in 13 days, the No. 22-ranked Washington University in St. Louis baseball team finished its trip to Florida with a 13-0 loss to No. 7 Southern Maine University Friday at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex.

Southern Maine scored in each of the first four innings to jump out to a 9-0 lead. The Bears had their best scoring opportunity of the game in the first inning. Junior Austin Darmawan and senior Max Golembo hit back-to-back singles to start the game for the Bears, but a strikeout and a double play ended the threat. WashU was limited to four hits the remainder of the game as the Bears were shut out for the second time this season.

Junior Scott Nelson (1-4) took the loss after allowing nine runs, seven earned, on 10 hits in 3.1 innings. Freshman Curtis Hoffman and junior Chris McKee both pitched in relief for the Bears.
