No. 13 Bears Finish Fifth at ITA National Team Indoors

Greencastle, Ind., Feb. 27, 2016 – The No. 13-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team defeated two top-10 teams Saturday to finish in fifth place at the 2016 ITA Division III Women's National Team Indoor Championship hosted by DePauw University.

The Bears swept doubles en route to a 7-2 win over No. 9 MIT in the consolation match Saturday morning. WashU then earned a 5-1 win over No. 10 Washington and Lee University Saturday night in the fifth-place match. Senior Aly Coran, sophomore Grace Deering and senior Jamie Silverberg each posted three wins for the Bears.

• WashU swept doubles for the first time this season in the win over MIT.
• All six of WashU's matches this season have been against teams ranked in the top-15 in NCAA Division III.
• Silverberg improved to 121-55 in her career, passing Kacie Cook (2001-05) and Shilpa Reddy (1998-2002) for eighth on WashU's all-time wins list.
• Coran increased her career win total to 116, moving into a tie with Gloria Abramson (1994-98) for 11th on WashU's all-time wins leaderboard.
• Junior Rebecca Ho moved up to a tie with Jenny Stein (2000-03) for 22nd on the all-time wins list with her 104th career victory.
• Deering brought her career win total to 60, and remained unbeaten (5-0) in singles in dual matches this season.

Up Next:
WashU improved to 4-2 on the season with the two wins. MIT also lost in the seventh-place match Saturday evening to fall to 10-3, while Washington & Lee dropped to 3-2 after its loss to the Bears. WashU has two weeks off before heading to California for five matches during spring break March 12-16.
