No. 13 Women's Tennis Falls to No. 7 Pomona-Pitzer at ITA Indoors

Greencastle, Ind., Feb. 26, 2016 – Sophomore Grace Deering and junior Rebecca Ho each defeated nationally ranked singles opponents in straight sets, but the No. 13-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team fell to No. 7 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges 7-2 in the quarterfinal of the 2016 ITA Division III Women's National Team Indoor Championship Friday at DePauw University.

After dropping three close doubles matches, WashU fell behind 4-0 when Pomona-Pitzer picked up a win at No. 2 singles. Deering then finished her 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles over No. 26-ranked Maryann Zhao to give the Bears their first point of the match. Ho followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win over sixth-ranked Joy Kim at No. 1 singles to make it 4-2, but Pomona-Pitzer won the final three singles matches.

• Deering remained unbeaten in singles in dual matches this season (4-0), improving her career singles record to 28-7.
• All four of WashU's matches this season have been against teams ranked in the top-15 in NCAA Division III.

WashU dropped to 2-2 with the loss, while Pomona-Pitzer improved to 2-1. The Bears will play a pair of matches at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship Saturday, Feb. 27. WashU begins the day Saturday with an 8:30 a.m. (ET) match against No. 9 MIT, who lost its quarterfinal 5-4 to No. 12 Sewanee.
