Singles Sweep Gives No. 11 Bears 7-2 Win Over No. 30 Denison

Madison, Wis., April 3, 2015 – The No. 11-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team swept all six singles matches to earn a 7-2 win over No. 30 Denison College in the quarterfinal round of the Madison Invitational Friday afternoon.

• The Bears improved to 4-4 against nationally ranked opponents this season.
• It was the second time this season WashU has won after dropping two of three doubles matches.
• Junior Aly Coran and sophomore Kaylan Griffith improved to 4-0 as a doubles team this season.
• Senior Hanna Newstadt won her fifth straight singles match.
• Junior Jamie Silverberg improved to 98-46 in her career with her victory at No. 2 singles, two wins shy of becoming the 22nd member of WashU's 100-victory club.

Up Next: WashU improved to 10-4 overall with the win, while Denison fell to 9-4. The Bears will take on No. 15 University of Chicago in the semifinal of the Madison Invitational at 7:45 a.m. Saturday. No. 14 DePauw University and No. 23 Case Western Reserve University square off in the other semifinal. The Madison Invitational championship and third-place matches are scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
