Leo Liu

Leo Liu is entering his third year as an Assistant Sports Performance Coach at Washington University in St. Louis. Originally from Beijing, China, Leo earned his Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from the University of Iowa and his Master of Strength and Conditioning from Springfield College.

Before joining the Danforth campus, Coach Liu worked at the Shanghai Track & Field Training Center and interned at institutions including UConn, Mike Boyle Strength & Conditioning (MBSC), and the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Leo brings a wide range of experience, having trained Chinese Olympic and provincial-level athletes, as well as a diverse range of college athletes across sports such as football, soccer, basketball, wrestling, gymnastics, track & field, hockey, and rugby. He holds multiple certifications, including Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (C.S.C.S.), USA Weightlifting Level 1, and Certified Functional Strength Coach Level 1.

Leo currently works directly with men’s and women’s tennis, softball, golf, men’s soccer, and assists with football. During his first year at the Danforth campus, Coach Liu contributed to the success of several teams, with four out of the five teams he worked with advancing to the playoffs. Among these achievements, the women’s tennis team made it to the Elite Eight, showcasing the collective efforts of the entire coaching staff and athletes.
