Kerman Mason enters his 10th season as an assistant football coach at Washington University in St. Louis. Mason, who has 20+ years of coaching high school and college football, will coach the defensive backs.

While serving as an assistant under head coach Larry Kindbom the past nine years, WashU has won three University Athletic Association (UAA) championships (2011, 2015, 2017) and one Southern Athletic Association (SAA) title in 2016. He has also been on staff during NCAA Division III playoff appearances by the Bears in 2013 and 2016.

This past season WashU finished with a 7-3 overall record in the program's second season as an associate member in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW). The Bears tied for third place in the CCIW with a 6-3 mark. WashU led the league in turnover margin (+1.1) and was third in scoring defense (19.5).

In 2018, WashU posted an 8-2 overall record in the program's first season as an associate member in the CCIW. The Bears finished in third place in the CCIW with a 7-2 mark. WashU upset then No. 12-ranked Wheaton College (Ill.) 17-10 on Oct. 13 for its first victory over a ranked opponent since 2010. The Bears were third in the conference in scoring defense (22.0).

Mason spent three years as an assistant coach at Parkway South and four years at Ritenour, and served as the defensive backs and junior varsity co-head coach for six seasons at Chaminade College Prep.

Mason played two years at Joliet Junior College and two years at Drake University. He was a second-team all-Pioneer League selection at defensive back for Drake in 1995. Mason graduated from Drake in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, and earned a master’s degree in teaching from Lindenwood University in 2008.

The St. Louis native is a 1992 graduate of Parkway South High School.
