COLLEGE GROVE, Tenn. – The No. 1 Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team finished third at the ITA Indoor Nationals with a 4-1 win over No. 7 Middlebury in the third place match on Saturday morning.
Doubles
The Bears won two of the three doubles matches to secure the doubles point for an early 1-0 edge.
No. 7 Junior
Eleanor Archer and sophomore
Caitlin Bui defeated Lulu Wu and Gusty Beveridge 6-3 at No. 1 doubles.
No. 11 senior
Eliana Hanna and sophomore
Ally Lin beat Ren Barton and Anna Lardner 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.
No. 18 first-year
Lily Brecknock and sophomore
Sam Slowik fell to Elsie Van Wieren and Diya Pachamuthu 6-0.
Singles
No. 8 Hanna beat No. 21 Van Wieren 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and No. 17 Archer defeated Lardner 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Bui topped No. 46 Beveridge 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
Middlebury picked up its lone point at No. 5 singles as No. 38 Brecknock fell to Barton 6-0, 6-3. The remainder of the matches went unfinished when the Bears clinched the match.
WashU hits the road next week for its spring break trip to Hilton Head, S.C. On Tuesday, March 10 they play Rhodes, followed by No. 3 Emory on Wednesday, March 11. The Bears take on No. 6 Wesleyan on Thursday, March 12 and wrap up with No. 9 Babson on Sunday, March 15.
