ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Washington University in St. Louis football team, which received votes in the
AFCA Preseason Coaches Poll, announces its four captains for the 2025 season.
Seniors
Caiden Hill,
Ryan Schmadtke and
Fred Ware as well as junior
Levi Moore will lead the Bears in their last season in the CCIW.
Hill, who last year played on both sides of the ball, has played in 19 career games including all 10 as a junior. On defense, he recorded 21 solo tackles with seven assists, had one interception and one block. Off the field, he is one of the Co-Presidents of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Schmadtke, a safety, has had a solid career for the Bears thus far, playing in 26 games including all 10 in back-to-back seasons. He's recorded six career interceptions and as a junior, had 31 tackles with 17 assists, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
Ware, a running back, has played in every game of his football career. Last season as a junior, he racked up 585 yards on 85 carries, scoring nine touchdowns and averaging 58.9 yards per game. In his career, he sits at 1,600 rushing yards. Off the field, Ware is also one of the Co-Presidents of SAAC, for the second year in a row.
Moore, a quarterback, moved into the starting spot as a sophomore, going 89-for-154 for 1,053 yards including nine touchdowns. He also scored six rushing touchdowns and combined has a total of 23 career touchdowns.
The Bears begin the 2025 season on Saturday, September 6 with a 7 p.m. home game against Rhodes. The game will serve as the Fall Welcome/First-Year Student Tailgate. WashU travels to Carroll on Saturday, September 20 to open its final season in the CCIW. All WashU's home games will stream live on the
