ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Bear Beats is a weekly release that will be posted on Mondays to provide a look back at the past week of action and to preview the events for the upcoming week. The 27th episode will feature men's and women's outdoor track and field, women's tennis, baseball, softball, and golf.

No. 10 Softball
- UAA CHAMPIONS!!!
- With its sweep of Emory over the weekend, WashU has claimed its first UAA title since 2017 and has earned the UAA's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
- In game one, the Bears got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first.
- Senior Taylor Geluck put the Bears on the board in the bottom of the first inning. After senior Natalia Pilpil drew a two-out walk, Geluck drilled a shot to left center for a double, scoring Pilpil for the 1-0 lead.
- There was not another run until the fifth inning when the Bears made it a 2-0 game.
- With two outs, junior Alexa Hanish singled down the left field line. Senior Maggie Baumstark followed with a triple – which barely missed going out of the park, bouncing off the top of the fence – scoring Hanish.
- The Eagles tied the game up in the top of the sixth, but In the bottom of the sixth, first-year Harper Nix singled through the right side to lead things off, and senior Brooke Capparelli, who came on to run, reached second on an error. With two outs, sophomore Kristina Donaldson ripped a single up the middle, advancing to second on the throw and scoring Capparelli to give the Bears back the lead, 3-2. Following an Emory pitching change, sophomore Kennedy Grippo singled to short, scoring Geluck to take a two-run, 4-2 lead.
- In the top of the seventh with one out and one runner on, Emory lined into a double play as senior pitcher Jordan Rossi caught a line drive and threw to first to get out Grace Cooper and end the game.
- Rossi earned the win in the circle, pitching a complete game with no earned runs, five hits, and three strikeouts.

- Game 2 was a much shorter contest as the Bears were able to score eight runs in the bottom of the second and added two more in the bottom fourth while holding Emory scoreless for the 10-0 win in five innings.
- Senior Jamie Burgasser earned the win in the circle, pitching a complete game with two hits and six strikeouts.

- The Bears wrapped up the regular season with Saturday's 1-0 shutout of the Eagles.
- After four scoreless innings, the Bears got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning. Grippo singled up the middle and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Hanish. Baumstark drew a walk and with two outs, Nix ripped a single to right center, scoring Grippo for a 1-0 game.
- Sophomore Maria Brooks earned the win in the circle, pitching three innings of relief and allowing just one hit with no walks and one strikeout.
No. 2 Women's and No. 19 Men's Outdoor Track and Field
- Track and Field will split up and take on the competition at three different meets over the weekend.
- Both teams saw action at the Sycamore Open, Billy Hayes Invitational and the USF Fighting Chance Invite on Friday, May 9.

- Sophomore Cate Christopher won the event with a time of 2:10.64

- Sophomore Caroline Echols (5th – 2:13.37) and junior Cate Stevens (7th – 2:13.40) also finished in the top 10

- Spytek finished fourth with a time of 55.83

- Senior Izzy Gorton set a new PR with a time of 2:07.15.
- The time is the new fourth best in Div. III this spring
- 400m Hurdles
- Senior Ruby Kaplan finished second with a time of 1:03.62
- 200m
- Gay was runner-up with the seventh best time this spring in Div. III at 24.12
- 4x400m
- The team of sophomore Julia Coric, Spytek, first-year Quinn Bird, and Kaplan were runners-up with a time of 3:47.84Â

- Graduate Ebun Opata finished fourth with a distance of 5.58m

- Opata got her first event win of the day with a new meet record of 12.42m

- Senior Yasmin Ruff was second with a cleared height of 3.84m

- First-year Lauren Raley had the fifth best-time with a mark of 2:12.53.

- Senior Virginia Pridgen had second best time of those who ran with a mark of 4:34.59

- Sophomore William Frohling finished runner-up with a time of 1:51.08
- It was the best season and the new 23rd best time in Div. III this spring

- Graduate Tommaso Maiocco took second place with a height of 5.18m
- He tied his personal best and set the new #2 in Div. III this spring
- Junior George Bourdier was third with a height of 5.08m
- Sophomore Peter Lichtenberger was fourth with a season best height of 5.08m, setting a new fifth best in Div. III this spring

- Junior Conor Daly was third with a time of 14:30.55
- Senior Matthew Hornung was eighth with a time of 14:43.17
- First-year Sean Green finished 12th in a deep field with a time of 14:49.90
No. 9 Women's Tennis
- WashU picked up a pair of wins over No. 41 Grinnell and No. 25 Kenyon to advance to the Elite 8 for the second year in a row.
- With a bye in the first round, the Bears swept through the Pioneers in the second round 4-0.
- WashU got wins at number one and three doubles to take the doubles point.
- They followed up with wins at numbers one, six, and four singles to clinch the match.
- In their match five matches that finished, the Bears gave up only six total games.

- In the regional final against the Owls, junior Eliana Hanna and Ally Lin picked up the first win at No. 3 doubles, 6-3.
- No. 2 sophomore Eleanor Archer and first-year Caitlin Bui beat the No. 21 duo from Kenyon 6-4 at No. 1 doubles to take a 1-0 lead.
- Hanna secured the first singles point for WashU, beating Kenyon 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Lin earned the next point, defeating her Owl opponent 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.
- Bui sealed the deal for the Bears at No. 2 singles winning, 6-2, 6-4.

No. 2 Women's and No. 19 Men's Outdoor Track and Field
- Track and Field will compete one more time before the selections for the 2025 NCAA Championships.
- WashU will compete on both Wednesday and Thursday, May 14 and 15, at the Augustana Midwest Twilight Qualifier in Rock Island, Ill.
No. 4 Golf
- WashU is in the Tidewater area of Virginia for the 2025 Div. III Women's Golf National Championship this week.
- The Bears take on the field at the Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Va. on Tuesday, May 13 through Friday, May 16.
- The NCAA DIII Women's Golf Championships include team and individual play over 72 holes.
- After 36 holes, the field is cut to the top 15 teams and the top six individuals not on those teams.
- Each team's four lowest scores count daily, with up to 176 total participants.

No. 10 Softball
- WashU learned on Monday morning that it has been selected to host a four-team regional as part of the 2025 NCAA Div. III Softball Tournament.
- The Bears welcome No. 7 Redlands, Wartburg, and Lake Forest to the WashU Softball Field.
- The double-elimination bracket gets underway on Thursday, May 15 at 11 am with Redlands vs. Lake Forest.
- WashU will play in the second game of the day at 1:30 pm against Wartburg.
- The winners will play on Friday at 11 a.m. with the other two teams playing an elimination game at 1:30 pm. The loser of the 11 am game will play an elimination game at 4 p.m. Friday against the winner from the 1:30 pm game.
- The regional championship will take place at 11 am on Saturday, May 17. The "If Necessary" game will immediately follow at 1:30 pm.

RV Baseball
- WashU learned Monday that it had earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament and will travel to Adrian in Michigan for its four-game regional.
- The Bears will face off against Ohio Northern in its first game of the regional with the host Bulldogs taking on Wisconsin-Whitewater in first round matchups on Friday, May 16.
