No. 24 Men's Tennis Tames Panthers On Monday Afternoon, 7-0

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – After more than a week off from matches, the No. 24 Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team returned to action on the friendly courts at the Tao Tennis Center on Monday afternoon when they took on Principia.

There didn't appear to be any rust as the Bears made quick work in doubles before sweeping through singles matches for the 7-0 win over the Panthers.

Junior Colin Scruggs and sophomore Daniel Radke made quick work at number three doubles, 6-0, before the top team of seniors Stefan Hester and Pato Garcia Muriel clinched the doubles point, 6-2.

Sophomore Nathan Tam and first-year Coleman Merce completed the doubles sweep with a 6-4 win at number two doubles.

Radke picked up where he left off in doubles with a quick 6-0, 6-0 win at number six; he did not surrender a game in either singles or doubles. First-year Drew Koval finished just a few minutes later with his 6-1, 6-0 win at number five singles. Junior Case Fagan clinched the win with his 6-3, 6-0 win at number four.

Despite WashU already having won the match, the three remaining matches did not give up. Junior Eric Kuo was the next to finish at number two singles with his 6-0, 6-3 win and was followed by Scruggs' win at number one singles, 6-3, 6-2.

After dropping a tight first set, 7-5, Hester rebounded at number three singles to claim the second set 6-1. Since the match was already decided, a match tiebreak was played in lieu of a full third set with Hester completing the sweep, 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 (7).

WashU is back on the courts on Thursday, April 10, when they take on Hendrix in another afternoon contest at the Tao Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m.
