No. 32 Men's Tennis Falls To No. 5 Emory In UAA Quarterfinals

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The No. 32 Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team opened up its UAA Tournament quarterfinal match with No. 5 Emory by claiming the doubles point. However, the Eagles stormed back in singles, winning the first four matches to finish to take the match 4-1 over the Bears.

Seniors Stefan Hester and Pato Garcia Muriel made quick work of their match at number one doubles, defeating their opponents 6-2. Emory evened up the doubles with its own 6-2 win at number two doubles.

The duo of juniors Colin Scruggs and Eric Kuo were the deciding factor as WashU claimed the doubles point with their win at number three, 7-5.

Singles were not as kind to the Bears on Friday morning. The Eagles were able to pick up straight-set wins at both number two and number six singles to take a 2-1 lead over WashU.

The other singles matches at one, three, four, and five singles all split their first two sets. Emory was able to claim the third set at both number one and number three to go up 4-1 and claim the match.

The remaining matches at four and five singles were left unfinished.

WashU will be back on the courts tomorrow, Saturday, April 26, when they take on Brandeis in the consolation semifinals at 12:30 p.m. The Judges fell to No. 6 Case Western Reserve 4-1 in another tournament quarterfinal.
