CLEVELAND, Ohio -- It was not the weekend ending the No. 10 Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team was hoping for, as the Bears fell 5-2 to UAA opponent No. 5 Case Western Reserve early Sunday morning.
The Spartans won the doubles point, winning two of the three matches before winning four singles matches for the win.
The doubles point nearly went in favor of the Bears. Senior
Scott Yamamoto and first-year
Drew Koval picked up a 6-3 win at number three. The Spartans pulled even with a matching score at number two. At the top spot, it came down to a tiebreaker with seniors
Stefan Hester and
Pato Garcia Muriel falling in extra points, 7-6 (8).
CWRU took a 3-0 lead with wins at number five and six singles. They then clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-4 win at number four.
Not going quietly, junior
Colin Scruggs earned a 6-4, 6-4 win at the top singles spot and was followed with a 7-6 (6), 7-5 win by senior
Eric Kuo at number two singles.
WashU returns home for its next match on Monday, April 7, when Principia comes to the Tao Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m.
