ATLANTA, Ga. – The No. 17 Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team defeated No. 6 Carnegie Mellon on Saturday morning, 4-3. The Bears are 8-4 overall.
Doubles
The Bears won one of the three doubles points, giving the Tartans a 1-0 advantage heading into singles.
Sophomore
Eleanor Archer and first-year
Caitlin Bui won the lone doubles match, defeating Anna Chow and Zoe Angell 6-2.
Juniors
Amber Edmonds and
Eliana Hanna fell to Ancele Dolensek and Divya Venkatarama 4-6 and first-years
Sam Slowik and
Chloe Brissett lost to Anika Joshi and Shelly Zinchenko 2-6.
Singles
First-year
Ally Lin won the first singles point for the Bears at No. 4 singles, defeating Venkatarama 6-4, 6-2 to tie the match at 1-1.
Bui then gave WashU a 2-1 edge with a win at No. 2 singles, beating Sarah Yang 7-5, 6-2.
CMU pulled even with a win at No. 1 singles as Archer fell to Zinchenko 5-7, 2-6.
Hanna gave the Bears another edge with a win at No. 3 singles, topping Dolensek 6-1, 4-6, 6-1.
Junior
Nina Moravek fell to Manuela Van Cotthem 6-4, 0-6, 4-6 at No. 6 singles, knotting the match at 3-3.
Sophomore
Emily Chiasson won the match for the Bears with a victory at No. 5 singles, beating Victoria Gazda 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.
