No. 12 Men's Tennis Returns Home With A 7-0 Sweep of North Central

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Returning home from their spring break trip, the No. 12 Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team celebrated with a 7-0 shutout of visiting North Central at the Tao Tennis Center on Saturday morning.

The Bears swept through the doubles, 3-0, to secure the doubles point. First-year Drew Koval and senior Scott Yamamoto opened up with a 6-2 win at number three. Seniors Pato Garcia Muriel and Stefan Hester clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win at the top spot.

Senior Eric Kuo and junior Colin Fox completed the sweep with a 7-5 win at number two doubles.

Hester continued the strong start with a 6-1, 6-4 win at number three singles before senior John Fakouri put WashU within one of the win at number five, 6-2, 6-1. First-year Avi Mahajan clinched the win with his 6-0, 6-3 at number six singles.

Junior Case Fagan was the next Bear to finish with his 6-3, 6-4 win at number four. Fellow junior Colin Scruggs split sets at number one singles 3-6, 6-0. With the match already decided, he played a match tiebreak in lieu of a third set. Needing some extra points in the tiebreak, Scruggs claimed it 12-10 for the win.

Kuo closed out the match with a long, 6-2, 7-5 win at number two singles to complete the match sweep, 7-0.

WashU returns to the road next week when it travels to Ohio for a four-match trip. The Bears start off the weekend with a match at John Carroll on Friday, March 28 at 4 p.m. ET.
