STOW, Ohio – In a tune-up for some of the region's best on Saturday and Sunday, the No. 10 Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team faced off against John Carroll on Friday afternoon in a match that was moved indoors due to weather.
The Bears made quick work of the Blue Streaks with a sweep of doubles and singles for the 7-0 win.
In doubles, junior
Colin Scruggs and first-year
Drew Koval finished first at number three with a 6-1 win. Seniors
Stefan Hester and
Pato Garcia Muriel clinched the doubles point for WashU with a 6-2 win at the top spot after dropping their first game. Senior
Eric Kuo and junior
Colin Fox completed the sweep at number two doubles with a 6-2 win.
In singles, WashU won in straight sets across the board with first-year
Avi Mahajan picking up the "double-bagel" in a 6-0, 6-0 win at number four. Senior
Scott Yamamoto also made quick work at number six with a 6-0, 6-1 win.
Fox won his match at number three singles, 6-1, 6-1, clinching the match for the Bears. Scruggs was right behind with a 6-0, 6-2 win at the top spot.
Garcia Muriel added his 6-1, 6-2 win to the Bears' total at number five. Hester closed out the matches with a 6-1, 6-4 win at number two.
WashU will play a pair of matches on Saturday, starting off with No. 4 Denison at 8 a.m. ET before a break. The Bears will then take on No. 17 Kenyon starting at 4 p.m.
