CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. -- It was a rough week for the No. 12 Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team with weather forcing changes to the schedule for most of the week. The Bears closed out their time in the Golden State with a tough 5-2 loss to No. 8 Swarthmore on Friday afternoon.
In doubles, the Bears got a win at number two from the team of senior
Eric Kuo and junior
Colin Fox, 6-3. However, the Garnet were able to secure wins at numbers one and three doubles to claim the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead.
Swarthmore was able to continue their strong play with straight-set wins at numbers one, three, and four to clinch the team win. Junior
Case Fagan returned the favor at number five singles with his own 6-3, 7-6 straight-set win.
Kuo made himself a double winner on the day with a win at number two singles. He won his first set 7-5 before forcing a tiebreak in the second set, narrowly dropping the 7-6 (6) set two. With the match already decided, a match tiebreak was played in lieu of a third set. In another close tiebreak, it was Kuo this time who prevailed with a 1-0 (8) win for the third set and the match.
Senior
Scott Yamamoto won his first set at number six singles, 6-2, but was unable to continue that momentum, falling in three sets.
WashU will have just over a week until their next match on Saturday, March 22 against North Central at the friendly confines of the Tao Tennis Center on campus. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.
