CHESTERFIELD, Mo. -- It was a misty cold night outside, so the No. 12 Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team went indoors at the Forest Lake Tennis Club for a match with DePauw on Saturday evening. The Bears swept through doubles en route to a 6-1 win over the Tigers. WashU is now 2-0 on the season.
It was a sweep through doubles for the Bears with the duo of junior
Case Fagan and classmate
Colin Fox finishing first winning their match at number two doubles, 6-1. Not too far behind them were seniors
Pato Garcia Muriel and
Stefan Hester with a 6-3 at the top doubles spot. Senior
Scott Yamamoto teamed up with first-year
Drew Koval for the 6-4 win at number three.
Senior
Eric Kuo got things started in singles with a quick 6-1, 6-2 win at the number two spot. Finishing near the same time were Hester and Fagan at number three and four singles, respectively. Hester finished with a 6-2, 6-4 win while Fagan came off the court with a 6-3, 6-4 victory, securing the fourth team point and the win for the Bears.
Junior
Colin Scruggs dropped his opening set at number one before rebounding with a 6-4 set two win to level the the match. However, the Tigers top player was able to get DePauw on the board with a 6-2 win in set three.
Fox was then able to take the court and finished with a quick 6-0, 6-2 win at number five before sophomore
Nathan Tam closed out the evening with a 6-2, 6-3 win at number six.
WashU will have an extra week to practice before they next take on Augustana on Sunday, Mar. 2. First serve with the Vikings is scheduled for 3 p.m.
