WashU Women's Track & Field Opened Season At Scott Fangman Invite

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Washington University in St. Louis women's track and field team kicked off the indoor season on Saturday when they traveled to the Scott Fangman Invitational being hosted by UIndy.

No team scores were kept at the meet.

Top Finishers
  • 60m
    • In the final, senior Jasmine Wright took home first place with a time of 7.69.
    • Sophomore Leah Phelps also made the final and finished in seventh with a time of 8.01.
  • 400m
    • WashU finished with four of the top five and seven of the top 10 in the event.
    • Senior Kylie Spytek finished second with a time of 57.40 with sophomore Quinn Bird taking home third with a time of 58.72.
    • Juniors Julia Coric and Gayle Henderson were fourth and fifth, respectively with times of 59.23 and 59.65.
    • First-year Ayisat Jimoh finished ninth with a time of 1:02.65 in her first collegiate event while sophomore Clare Marchant was 10th in a time of 1:02.66.
  • 800m
    • In dominating fashion, WashU finished with the top nine in the event.
    • Junior Cate Christopher won with a time of 2:17.75. Sophomore Kalena Riemer was runner-up with a time of 2:18.00
    • Sophomore Caroline Echols rounded out the top three in third with a time of 2:18.14
  • 4x400m
    • The team of Bird, Christopher, Coric, and Spytek took home first place with a time of 3:55.90.
    • The WashU "B" team entered and finished second with a time of 3:58.94. The team was made up by junior Caroline Echols, Henderson, Kiemer, and senior Cate Stevens.
  • Pole Vault
    • First-year Campbell Pallera won her first collegiate event as the only competitor to clear 3.72m.
    • Senior Mackenzie Walker was just one height behind her with 3.57m to finish in a tie for second place.
  • Shot Put
    • Senior Jenae Bothe finished in second place for WashU with a throw of 13.84m.
 
WashU will have a long break for exams and in between semesters before returning to competition on Saturday, Jan. 17. The Bears will compete at the annual John Craft Invite hosted by Eastern Illinois University at Lantz Fieldhouse.
