Career Highs From Przybilla, Rocca Propel No. 5 WashU Past Colorado College

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The No. 5 Washington University in St. Louis men's basketball team defeated Colorado College 92-57 on Saturday afternoon in the All-Academic Classic. The Bears are 5-0 for the season.
 
Sophomore Anthony Przybilla and first-year Theo Rocca led the Bears, scoring career highs of 16 points each. Rocca grabbed six rebounds to go with two steals and two assists, while Przybilla had four rebounds and one assist.
 
Sophomore Lleyton Thomas-Johnson scored 12 points and grabbed six boards, while sophomore Connor May had 10 points.
 
The Bears had a hot start, going up 9-0 in the first 2:38. Przybilla scored the first points of the half for the Bears with a pull-up jumper, followed by five points from May. Senior Calvin Kapral put in a layup with an assist from senior Will Grudzinski for the 9-0 lead.
 
The Tigers netted their first points at 16:04 with a 3-pointer from Orion Samikoglu before the Bears hit back-to-back 3-pointers from junior Ryan Cohen and Thomas-Johnson for a 15-3 lead at 15:24.

WashU continued the offensive production as Rocca laid one in, followed by a jumper from junior Jake Davis and a layup from Thomas-Johnson, putting the Bears ahead 23-6 with 11:09 on the clock. Przybilla put in a layup from a Thomas-Johnson pass 29 seconds later for a 25-9 advantage.

With just under five minutes remaining in the first half, junior George Gale had an offensive putback. Cohen followed with another 3-pointer for a 37-17 lead at 4:35.
 
Przybilla laid one in at 3:57 to start an 8-0 run for the Bears. He then drilled a 3-pointer at 3:39, and May followed with another shot from distance at 3:04 for a 45-19 Bears' advantage.
 
WashU closed out the first half with six straight points from Przybilla, Rocca, and first-year Josh Kim, sending the Bears into halftime with a 51-24 lead.
 
Colorado College's 24 points mark the fewest allowed in a half by the Bears this season.

Grudzinski scored the first points of the second half, draining a 3-pointer with an assist from Przybilla.
 
A 3-pointer from Rocca at 15:53 pushed the Bears past the 30-point threshold, and he followed with a jumper to make it a 32-point, 61-29 lead for WashU.
 
Thomas-Johnson hit a jumper at 12:48, was fouled, and converted the ensuing free throw. Rocca followed with five straight points on a coast-to-coast layup, an offensive putback, and a free throw to complete the and-one, pushing WashU ahead 73-33 with 10:44 remaining.
 
The Bears continued to hold a 30+ point lead as the clock ticked down. With 2:03 remaining, graduate senior Kyle Beedon drained a shot from distance and hit another one with 52 seconds remaining for the final points of the game.
 
WashU shot 34-for-63 (54%), including 11-for-27 (40.7%) from 3-point range. The Bears had a 48-36 advantage on the boards and scored 53 points from the bench.
The Bears wrap up the All-Academic Classic tomorrow at 3 p.m. against Rhodes. Prior to the Bears' game, Chicago and Colorado College face off at 1 p.m.
