SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. – Playing in their final game as a member of the CCIW, the Washington University in St. Louis football team fell to UW-Stout 31-23 in the 5th Annual Culver's Isthmus Bowl. The Bears concluded the season at 8-3.
After UW-Stout punted on the first drive of the game, the Bears began their drive with a six-yard pass from junior quarterback
Levi Moore to junior
Makael Carter. Senior
Fred Ware ran for four yards and a first down at the WashU 45, and Moore hit sophomore
Lucas Blumenthal for 10 yards and a first down at the UW-Stout 45.
Moore connected with Carter again for 12 yards and a first down at the 33 and then Moore ran the ball for one yard. Moore picked up another two yards before the Bears were whistled for holding, moving back 10 yards to the 14. Moore hit Carter for 11 yards to the three-yard line. Junior
Jacob Weinstein stepped up for the 20-yard field goal, making it a 3-0 game for the Bears.
WashU forced another UW-Stout punt on the next drive before starting a scoring drive. Moore connected with sophomore
Charlie Flowers for eight yards and then hit junior
Drew Bomar for a 71-yard touchdown pass. Sophomore
Matias Adrogue's kick was good, putting WashU up 10-0 with 4:42 remaining in the first quarter.
After yet another UW-Stout punt, the Bears began the final drive of the first quarter with a four-yard run from junior
Matthew Kinoshita. Following an incomplete pass, UW-Stout was whistled for pass interference, moving the Bears up to their own 41 for a first down. Moore followed with a five-yard pass to Carter and found Carter again for 25 yards to the Stout 29.
Moore picked up the first yards of the second quarter with a 12-yard run and a first down at the 17. Kinoshita ran for two yards and Moore picked up another eight yards for a first down at the seven. Moore hit Kinoshita for a seven-yard touchdown and Adrogue's kick was good for a 17-0 WashU lead.
UW-Stout scored its first points on the ensuing drive. Quarterback Adam Moen ran for 10 yards and a first down at the 39, followed by a four-yard run from Chandler Ross. Moen hit Mason Frank for 28 yards to the 29, and Chase Hughes ran for five yards.
Moen connected with Kade Tappen for six yards. On the next play, Moen hit Davonte Evans for an 18-yard touchdown and Garrison Jackman's kick was good for a 17-7 game.
The Bears punted on the ensuing drive and UW-Stout came out to score again, cutting it to a three-point game.
Moen found Frank for nine yards and then ran for 11 yards and a first down at the 37. Moen picked up another eight yards and then hit Jojo James for eight yards and a first down at the 47. Avron Carter ran for nine yards and Ross picked up 12 yards and a first down at the 38. Following the two-minute warning, Moen ran for a 26-yard touchdown and Jackman's kick was good, making it a 17-14 game heading into the half.
The Bears reached their own 39 before punting to open the third quarter. Moen began UW-Stout's drive with a three-yard run but lost two yards on the next play. Moen connected with James for eight yards and then ran for two for a first down at the 42. Ross ran up the middle for 22 yards and then finished the drive off with a nine-yard touchdown. Jackman's kick was good, putting UW-Stout ahead 21-17 with 9:25 remaining in the third quarter.
WashU reached its own 41 before Moore was sacked for a loss of 11 yards and the Bears were forced to punt.
Ross began the drive for UW-Stout with a 13-yard run and Moen kept the ball for 28 yards and a first down at the 30. Ross picked up two, six, and three yards, respectively, before Hughes lost a yard. Moen ran for five yards and Ross picked up two yards. Jackman hit a 20-yard field goal for the 24-17 lead with 1:27 on the clock.
The Bears began the final drive of the third quarter with a nine-yard pass from Moore to Carter. Moore ran for one yard and a first down at the 26. Moore opened the fourth quarter with a 45-yard pass to Carter to the 28 and then kept the ball for a 26-yard run. Moore picked up one more yard before hitting senior
Will Gardner for a one-yard touchdown pass. Adrogue's kick attempt failed, making it a 24-23 game with UW-Stout in the lead.
UW-Stout began its next drive with a 25-yard run from Ross, followed by another two yards. Evans caught a 38-yard touchdown pass from Moen and Jackman's kick was good, putting UW-Stout up 31-23.
The Bears had 419 yards of total offense (311 passing, 108 rushing) while UW-Stout had 365 total yards (150 passing, 215 rushing).
Moore went 20-for-31 for 311 yards with three touchdown passes and one interception. Ware led the rushing game with 49 yards on nine attempts while Moore had 39 yards on 11 attempts. Carter led the receivers with 174 yards on nine catches, and Bomar had 82 yards on three catches with one touchdown.

Joy Chane had nine total tackles (3 solo, 6 assists) with three tackles-for-loss and one sack. Senior
Ryan Schmadtke had seven total tackles (3 solo, 4 assists) and senior
Brady Willmer had six total tackles (1 solo, 5 assists) with 0.5 tackles-for-loss and 0.5 sacks.
The Bears now turn their attention to their first season in the North Coast Athletic Conference in 2026.
